A conventional publishing deal was signed at the beginning of the year with author Quentin Cope, co-author Sarita Collins and The Book Guild Ltd., part of the UK based Troubador Publishing Group, for a fascinating new biography detailing the life and times of Tony Collins, reputed to be the Master Spy of English football and the first black club manager in English Football league history. He then went on to become England’s very first black club manager when he took over the reins at Rochdale, guiding them to the final of the Football League Cup. He followed this triumph as assistant manager at Bristol City in partnership with Alan Dicks, bringing the club to the height of their successes in the late 1970’s. With an outstanding knowledge of play tactics and formations, he soon became the most sought after scout by all the major clubs including Leeds United, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers. Under England team manager Don Revie Collins undertook various scouting missions producing match reports containing such in-depth observational detail they have yet to be equalled to this very day. Revealing some often surprising and possibly contentious facts about ‘the beautiful game’ and some of the big names within it during the 70’s and 80’s, makes this great new book a ‘must have’ accessory to the club scarf and a regularly used season ticket.
